Ruching done right

RUCHING, my new detail attraction of the moment and check out my purse, it’s right on topic! muahaha

“Ruching (pronounced ROOSHING — ‘roo’ rhymes with ‘who’) is a French word which means to plait….A strip of fabric or ribbon is gathered in a repeat pattern and as the gathering thread is drawn up the strip forms scallops or petals. Throughout history ruching has been an embellishment or trim on women’s clothing often seen on a neckline, sleeve, hem or bonnet.”

Me in my blue dress looking a bit constipated but you get the idea. =p

Fashion Photography

Tiffany & Co

These types of photos are the reasons behind my current infatuation with fashion and the entertainment industry; sometimes it’s not even about the clothes but rather the divine (photo shopped) creature wearing the astonishing/outlandish outfit that can sell the look to us women who want to feel like we’ve just stepped out of a glamor ad ourselves or at least to be at the receiving end of a successful make-over show.

Not to ramble off but I love TLC’s “What Not to Wear!” The hosts are seriously funny but very informative; they give tips on how to choose figure flattering clothes while keeping it trendy and classy and I love watching the beautiful Carmindy work her make-up magic on the girl’s faces. I am continuously surprised by the outcomes of those make-overs and I’ve learned that you can bring out the prettiness in anyone….it just takes a little more effort to achieve but at least there is hope yet for some of us. I need to get me on the show so they can find me some sexy size 4 1/2 shoes (yes, my feet are retardedly small and yes I know that’s not a word but if the shoe fits…=/) and get constructive criticism all day long!

World of Warcraft

Let me begin by saying that World of Warcraft (or WoW) and I did not meet on friendly terms. I didn’t even know what it was nor did I want to and I sure as heck didn’t want my bf to play it 24/7 as he was prone to do when he first began playing the game about two years ago but that all changed last year when WoW came out with a new breed of characters in their game, one of which were blood elves!

Selling Samsung A990; Tech Toys: Nikon D40, BlackBerry Curve

The bf is getting ready to buy a new cell phone and change service provider so he’s looking at selling his old cell phone (which he’s only had for one year actually). The area that he lives in called “the boonies” (in the Lake Elsinore area) gives him little to no reception at home from his current service provider, Verizon, so he’s switching to T-mobile.

Quick mention, I really enjoy reading reviews from CNET.COM (has tech product reviews, technews, daily videos, free downloads, and podcasts) it has all the info you need to know along with images and videos for visual people, like moi.

His current cell phone: Samsung A990
Product Features:

-You can share your photos, videos and slide shows with an entire room full of people by connecting your a990 directly to any TV or home theater system

-connect the a990 to any PictBridge-compatible printer and you can print your photos instantly

-The wireless way to print your photos – when you connect with a Bluetooth-enabled printer

-wireless connection to headsets, hands-free car kits and more

-3.2 megapixels, a flash, a zoom and a host of automatic and manual camera functions mean.

-As long as you carry your phone, you’ll never miss an opportunity to take sharp, beautiful photos.

* Read Review

I personally like this phone for it’s camera features, it takes pretty good pictures for a camera phone. Example: picture taken at the hospital when my bf new nephew was born. =)

Santa Ana New Year

A quick recap of my weekend so far. We just got back from the Santa Ana new year and thankfully there were a lot more people than anticipated because what is a new year celebration without the distinctive jingling from the coins on many of the people’s decorative outfits. more pics

The crazy and coolest thing I spotted there was 2 dogs showing their asian pride. haha!

Marc and Kate’s Wedding

Before I start gushing about weddings, if you haven’t noticed I’ve been doing a few backpostings to catch you all up on some of the interesting events of this past year for me so go read them! After this post I’ll be able to update you on current events and such.=)

October 6, 2007
On this joyous day I was able to attend my bf’s brother’s wedding with his long time girlfriend. It was no surprise that the two would eventually end up tying the knot but it really hit me, on their wedding day, that these two people were giving themselves to each other for the rest of their lives…cliche as it is to say, it was a beautiful thing!

(crap…I’m starving and my mind is blank; I need some food for thought, I’ll be right back. *edit: much better, my stomach is hanging over my pants now, ugh!)

I love weddings; from the walk down the aisle, to wedding dress, to the table arrangements and food, I love all the little details that go into wedding planning. OK ok…I’ll post in a future blog about this little obsession…

Charity Event and Fashion Show

This past September I was asked to put together a fashion show for a charity event. Only in recent years have I come to understand and appreciate my culture a little better so I was ecstatic to coordinate the show and bring traditional hmong clothes onto the runway (or stage, as it happened to be). I’m going to give you an overview of the organization so bear with me for there will be some lovely pictures (no surprise there) and a video clip at the end! You can also go to Hmoob.com and look in their gallery section for more pictures from the fashion show.

The idea was to have these charity concerts in different cities around the US so it could hopefully reach out to more people. My older sister came up with the idea and organized the events; it consisted of a concert with some of our talented Hmong musicians, artists, speakers and performers. The goal of the events were to raise money and support, to charter buses for 300+ people to Washington DC to protest in awareness of the genocide in Laos. So earlier this year, my sister set the DC trip for the first weekend of October in which she was told there was going to be some press there with regards to a debate on the subject and so she began planning the series of events leading up to it. You can go directly to the site to learn more about the purpose of the organization: forthecause website

I was asked to be on the board for the organization but I don’t even think my sister has had it registered yet as a legal org. =/

Welcome to Anime Expo 2007

Damn, the things we do for family! Looking like early Halloween party goers, we had to wait in line for FIVE hours to get in the first day of the event but we finally made it in after much deliberation (”forget this” was said quiet a few times within the five hours) and got our four day pass-hardcore baby!

Fashion in Film: Period Costumes for the Screen

I had a chance to go to an exhibition [Fashion in Film: Period Costumes for the Screen] at the Paine Art Center this past summer. This was soo exciting for me, getting to view up-close-and-personal some of the beautiful dresses I’ve seen on the big screen which then afterwards found me wishing for days that a time machine would be invented so that I could begin the most successful career as a woman back then, a courtesan, ha!

A quick quote from the site about the exhibit before I go into picture posting mode.

“The exhibition features thirty-six period costumes worn by movie stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Gwyneth Paltrow in major motion pictures, from critically acclaimed films Dangerous Liaisons and Sense and Sensibility to blockbusters Indiana Jones and Titanic. The Paine’s presentation of the exhibition uniquely sets the elaborate costumes within the grandest rooms of the historic mansion…” - thepaine.org
