Bridal shoot: wedding dresses

Wedding photography blogs are a special part of my daily routine. It’s my cup of coffee in the morning. It’s what gives me warm fuzzy thoughts all day. I fall in love ten times a day with each unique wedding couple’s photos I look at and study. I love the candid shots so full of emotion and the drop dead gorgeous wedding details that are so worth their money…yes, spend, spend, spend, do it for me! =D Ok…I’ve come back down to earth now but of course not really since we are on a favorite topic of mine! Anyhow, I don’t really remember when my obsession with all things wedding-related started but since I enjoy sharing my interests with Babes, I think I got him into it as well because I see him surfing the same wedding blogs as I do. ahahah!

These wedding photos we took of Kristy and Sue were long overdue ladies! ahaha, you both looked breathtakingly beautiful…and also, thanks, I looked like a mess next to the two of you! =d Of course, all my happy visions of white and tulle couldn’t have been possible without the help of our dear friends and newlyweds, Doan and Alice. These were Alice’s wedding gowns from their June wedding (>click here< for pics!) and she has been kind enough to lend them to me and also to give one away for an upcoming contest we will be having here on our blog! The details of the contest will be given out soon so check back!

    Kay, if you don’t mind me asking which lens did you use for these photos?

      @Mai:

      Hi Mai,

      Funny thing is I also have those earrings! You have good taste! ;p

      I was using the Tamron 28-75mm/f2.8 and Babes was using the Nikon 50mm/f1.8…this prime lens is pretty inexpensive and we’ve been getting a lot of use out of it. =)

    Yep, gotta love the earring. Anyway, the photos turned out great! And indeed, I bought the Nikon 50mm/f 1.8 lens but for some reason I noticed a lot of blur photos. How do you decide on what f-stop to use and what mode do you shoot w/? I tried shooting on the aperature mode and f 1.8 but like I said, I get a lot of blur images. Maybe I’ll have to try shooting on the manuel mode, and switch the f-stop around.

      @Mai:

      Hi Mai,

      What I have learned is that when you’re using the lens at it’s lowest/widest aperture, your depth of field is very shallow (lots of blur around your focus point) so if you miss it…everything becomes blurry! ahah, bummer! But when you get it right on, especially when you’re focusing on the eyes, it makes that area you’re focusing on really pop out to the viewer. I would suggest that you just take test shots using different apertures to figure out where the “sweet spot” is….I found that at an aperture of 2.8 I can still get that nice blur and separation of my subject from the background and I don’t have as many blurry pictures.

      I don’t usually use manual mode (and I’ll use the meter inside the viewfinder to help) unless I know exactly what I’m doing, which is not the case most of the time so I stick to Aperture mode and Program mode. I got lots of learning to do still but anyhow good luck and hope that helps a little. =D
