Last month I was in the Portland area visiting family. In between the rainy days, we found time to visit the Portland Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden. Although the Chinese garden was smaller than expected, it was still rich with beautiful artifacts and very full of culture. The volunteer tour guide was very knowledgeable and took great care to explain the intricacies of every corner of the garden. There was not a single plant there planted by accident… just like the Yin and Yang, everything was there to ensure proper balance and order.
Of the two gardens, I definitely enjoyed the Japanese garden more. We weren’t able to get a tour guide for the Japanese Garden, but wow, the place spoke for itself. The garden was blanketed in rich vibrant red and yellow autumn colors; it made for the perfect backdrop for us picture whores =) If you are ever in the Portland area, make sure you set aside time to enjoy both of these beautiful gardens.
Here are photos of both gardens below, I hope you enjoy them.

Photography travel tip: If you find yourself under possible rainy conditions, grab the shower cap from your hotel room. It makes for the perfect camera rain cover.

I like the cute bow you tied on your hoodie. Evelyn and Brandon are so photogenic and full of personality! =) You aight too.
You know, you’re not suppose to take portraits within the Portland Japanese Garden. That’s a rule set by them. But good photos none the less.
