We’ve been photographically restless all week because of this winter rain storm. But finally, there was a break just in time for the weekend! Kay and I were hoping to capture a few photos with the nice fluffy clouds overhead, but they disappeared by the afternoon =(. Even without the clouds, we ended up at an outdoor shopping plaza we visited a few summers back: Dos Lagos in Corona, CA. There is a nice little pond there with a semi-tunneling bridge that’s perfect for photos.
I don’t think I’ll ever see Dos Lagos as pretty as we saw it a few summers ago, but it’s still a nice little hole in the wall for picture whores like us =). I’m still testing the limits of the Nikon 85mm f1.4 lens, so we took it out with the usual Nikon D700 and shot everything under natural light. Here are some photos, hope you enjoy them.

Hi Susan!
I got sick of driving into the ditches because of the snow so I’m back in CA for the winter! Muahaha! You are welcome to join me anytime! ;p
Beautiful color on you.
natural lighting and you are a beautiful combination!
Wow, you guys must spend a lot of money on your equipment.
I have a Canon PowerShot SX20 IS (I think, I forgot if it’s an SX20 or 30). I need a flash for it, what do you recommend? Also, what manual or custom settings should I have them be at? I know I need to just walk around and take different pictures but I just don’t have time right now.
Thank you and you and your lady do beautiful work.

I am not too familiar with the canon line of flashes, but any of them would be better than the on-camera flash. Of most importance is the ability to rotate and swivel the flash head so that you can bounce the flash off ceilings and walls for the best effect. What settings for the flash? I usually start at half power and adjust from there. What settings for the camera? It really depends on the available light. There really isn’t a “one” set it and forget it mode… unless you just put your camera on auto mode
