2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

The Costume Institute’s “American Women: Fashioning a National Identity” Gala took place a few weeks ago and I have been laboriously (there were so many, both on my list of love and hate) going over my picks for best and worst dressed. As far as best dressed goes, I could not take my eyes off Camilla Belle who wore a stunning red custom-made Jason Wu gown. And since I love me some shiny things, I loved Anne Hathaway in an exquisite sequined Valentino ballgown. Naomi Watts also stood out for me..the bold fuchsia color looked great on her and she can do classic Hollywood so effortlessly.

My worst dressed picks were Diane Lane and Liv Tyler for not putting anything fun on…lazy wenches! Elizabeth Banks went from bad to worse when she put on those tights. I usually like, if not love, what she wears so I’m going to pretend this never happened. =/ Thankfully there were plenty other fancy frocks I didn’t give the evil eye to. Which dresses do you like? And which dresses would you give the evil eye?

Jennifer Lopez

I think she really did this magnificent Zuhair Murad gown justice! The fit was perfection and she looked tall and regal in it. I’m also getting white peacock from the sequined print, which only adds more appeal for me. I love this dress, it’s unique and a real showstopper.

Melissa George, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ivanka Trump

SJP looked like she was having fun in a free flowing Halston. Simple but pretty. A free boobing Ivanka Trump looked top heavy and wide in her dress…be it Versace or not, I did not like this on her. I loved Melissa George’s choice of color and the elegant cascading draping of the gown.

Anne Hathaway

One of my favorites! She looked like a fairy princess which is exactly what I’ve always wanted to be so I am dying of envy right now.

Maggie Grace in a fetching gray J. Mendel gown.

metgala 7 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Kirsten Dunst, Mary J. Blige, Jessica Biel, Taylor Swift

Emma Watson

She is all grown up and was a delight on the red carpet wearing an eye-catching white Burberry gown. Btw I think Harry and Hermoine should have hooked up instead of with the best friend…that’s not right I say, rewrite!

Demi Moore, Nicole Richie, Iman, Claire Danes

I could not help but be mesmerized by Iman’s ageless beauty in a lovely ebony Prada dress.

Marion Cotillard

I adore this actress…she is so charming to watch and really really good looking. She was stunning as usual in Christian Dior and no one outshone her in terms of sequin and bead count I think.

Kate Hudson

The cute and sassy actress showed off her lean legs and new small but larger but small bazookas in an off the shoulder Stella McCartney dress.

metgala 8 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Alessandra Ambrosio, Bar Refaeli, Lily Donaldson, Naomi Campbell

metgala 18 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Kristen Stewart, Kerry Washington, Malin Akerman, Gisele Bundchen

metgala 23 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Camilla Belle

She is definitely on the top of my best dressed list. I’m not crazy about the make-up – especially the eyebrows – but overall she is simply stunning in this look. I am madly in love with the ring she is wearing…anyone feeling generous??

metgala 1 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Kate Bosworth in a striking Valentino gown. I’m iffy about this dress but it’s interesting how the print fans out all over.

metgala 5 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Georgina Chapman, Rosario Dawson, Vera Farmiga, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

metgala 13 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Blake Lively in a Marchesa dress…one of many blue hued dresses of the evening. You can say what you want about the dress but those legs deserve a worthy mention, they were the best walking sticks there in my opinion! I also loved her pinky ring…need to get me one!

metgala 4 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Mariska Hargitay, Abbie Cornish, Christine Hendricks, Amber Valetta

Christine or Amber…whose figure do you find more appealing?

metgala 15 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Doutzen Kroes in Zac Posen. One of my favorite models because she looks well-fed. =d Gorgeous gown that only a supermodel could pull off!

metgala 12 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Jessica Szohr, Kristen Bell, Rachel Bilson

metgala 24 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Mila Kunis, Thandie Newton, Oprah Winfrey

metgala 21 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Naomi Watts, Jessica Stam, Zoe Saldana, Gwen Stefani

metgala 22 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Rachel Weisz, Emmy Rossum, Diane Kruger, Brooke Shields

metgala 17 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Jessica Alba in a sleek Sophie Theallet for Gap dress.

metgala 6 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Eva Longoria

They’re calling these types of dresses mullet dresses (where the front is shorter than the back) and I actually don’t mind them but only if they are absolutely gorgeous like this Marchesa gown…then and only then.

metgala 10 2010 Met Costume Institute Gala

Eva Mendes, Renee Zellweger, Padma Lakshmi

These dresses definitely fell short in terms of fit…tight and/or just plain unflattering!

I agree… JLo looks stunning in that GORGEOUS gown! Although Camilla’s red dress is quite the show stopper as well. Eva Mendes’ dress is quite hideous in that mermaid-ish style… ick! And Jessica Alba’s dress is so clean and lovely in the front but very sloppy in the back… I’m not so convinced it works well.
