“Lilydale? That place is haunted!” That was the first thing we heard about this location. Despite all the spooky ghost stories, we decided to tough it out and use it for our mentoring session with Millie. It was the ideal spot really: nice and remote with fields of wildflowers, tall grass, and plenty of shady trees. We brought along a whole team of people and got to work (so I was a teensy bit scared of going out alone). Our models for the shoot were Niya and Amanda; we could hardly go wrong with those gorgeous ladies as our muses! Thanks to everyone for roughing it with us in the haunted wilderness. With the ticks, spirits and earthy stuff… who wouldn’t love it?
Here are a few natural light photos I snapped… I still need practice with this rule of thirds crap! Millie on the other hand, caught on quickly. Ty and I were beaming with pride…well, most of the time anyways… when Millie wasn’t on a smoke break ;p! Check out her beautiful photos from this shoot on her blog. I also loved her bts shot at the end; we took advantage of each and every available body! =)

Thanks to the girls in my family (and Cindy Crawford, she was mesmerizing in her old fashion spreads!) I’ve always loved dressing up in front of the camera. Now that my life revolves around photography, I always look at what people are wearing in terms of ‘would that outfit be fun to shoot?’ so when I saw this dress on Niya, I was immediately smitten with it….lace AND a flouncy skirt?! FUN! And if you must know, a fun outfit = inspiration for creative shots…so yes, wardrobe is important! How important? I don’t know, it just is! =)
Amanda totally owned this seductive black widow look! Whoohoo! She was a veteran in front of the camera; I loved her range of facial expressions and poses. I first met Amanda a few years back at a charity event and remember thinking she was going to turn into such a beauty. She has definitely lived up to my praises, phew. =) Can you say ‘money face’!

Wardrobe is just one of the many details that can turn a normal shoot into an extraordinary one. For those of us, like myself, who sometimes apply make-up like they ran into a door or have hair that is limp and flat…we need a little help from the professionals. Who doesn’t want to look their best for the camera, especially if they’re spending money on it. Some people can do hair like they were gifted at birth by the salon goddesses. One such person is Nancy (a guest blogger on MLX’s photography site) who was our hair and make-up artist for this shoot….omg, I wanted to be the one sitting down and getting all done up by her! I loved Niya’s pinned up ringlets. Nancy you did a great job!
Thanks Millie and the wonderful team for making it a fun and enjoyable experience. I hope you picked up at least one thing from this session…even if it’s only to bring along bug spray when shooting outdoors. =d
Models: Amanda and Niya; Make-up artist: Nancy

luv it
it was so much fun
@millie: You are a great photographer; you’re creative and inspirational and you get excited about new dresses like me, yay! I can’t wait to plan more shoots with you!
@MK: Thank you! *muah
@Julie: lol, thank goodness for those ghost stories! We were able to do the entire shoot without any annoying onlookers.
@Lisa: I’m thinking about doing some photoshop tutorials so look for them in the near future. =)
@Lori: They were SO pretty…even before all the make-up. And no diva attitudes which could have made them turn ugly fast ahah!
@Susan: lol, nothing freaky happened during the shoot but the thought crossed my mind ‘what if there were some weird shapes in the pictures afterward?’ EEEks! I wouldn’t be able to go to the bathroom (or anywhere) alone for at least a month!
We did a mini-shoot with Milllie while we were in MN. We’re hoping she’ll share some pics of us together on her blog soon…even though I looked like a train wreck that day; I cannot do clingy satin dresses….bulging jelly belly, yuck! =/
@digit: My favorite part is always choosing the wardrobe that’s for sure! I can’t wait to come down and see what new goodies you’ve added to the collection. =D
@Jane: Thank you! I remember seeing Grace Kelly’s wedding gown for the fist time and falling in love with it…pearls and lace are both so elegant and timeless!
@mdx: Thank you nyab! We need to do a girls photo shoot one of these days…a themed one!
@MPAV: I would never dare turn down that gorgeous forever face! =p
@Bao: Thank you! Yeah, we could have used another person on our ghost buster team!
Cute. Cute. Cute. Beautiful models. Beautiful work.
I would’ve never guessed those gorgeous images were shot at Lilydale, of all places. We used to cruise down there for kicks when we were younger, hoping to come across a ghost but never saw one. =D
Nice set. The faded look fit well. Mind sharing your post processing technique on the first image?
Geez, these are so pretty *_* I love the contrast between the models. Niya is so sweet and airy and bright, and Amanda is positively smokin’ haha.

I would like to see Ty and you together in a photo shoot. a fansty one or something that is you two.
I love these shots and the models look like MODELS!! The one girl in the black dress looks very much like Salita Ebanks (the Victoria Secret model)…..very much. I love the lace dress…..because I can see myself in it (15 lbs lighter) ha..ha..
I love the look on this shoot. Plus you had some gorgeous models to show case it! A girl can never go wrong w/some vintage lace and pearls.
