Her sexy fitted red gown is a little reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit but she kept it classy by doing soft and muted colors and accessories. And do models always have great hair? Sure seems like it! Looove the waves she usually sports on the red carpet.

On the runway, red carpet, or sidewalk, she always looked camera-ready…gotta get tiring, yeah? =/ I’m excited to see what new styles and fashion trends there will be this year and I hope to see more of Rosie because she usually never disappoints. Who was your fav fashion icon of 2011?

I am wearing a dress appropriately called The Way We Were Dress. I want to share the description of the dress from the site because I could not have said it any better how I felt the first time I slipped this dress on and gave it a twirl in front of the mirror.

“This is how dresses used to be made: beautiful, feminine and with sleeves! No need for a cardi or jacket. Just accessories if you choose to do so, but this dress is gorgeous with or without it. It comes in a beautiful textured fabric and lined in soft satin.”

I would have never thought polka-dots and ruffles would look good together on any one dress but they both add interest and charm to the dress without clashing.

We were fortunate enough to have the bouquets created by the talented people at Lucky Farms Flowers. =)

On a side note, darn my nappy hair!! I was having a bad hair day. ughs.

They did such a wonderful job on these bouquets, love love love! We added our home-made pinwheels for a twist of vintage.

We found a pretty country road a week ago and thought it would make a nice spot for a shoot. Once we decided we were going to use a bicycle, we were sold on the location.

EEEks, not much room for a bike ride. I was quite nervous about how close the cars were…

…but every time a car zoomed by it made for a nice wind affect.

Since it wasn’t all that windy out, we brought out balloons for some fun shots!

When making clothing suggestions to our clients, we always try to emphasize flowy dresses. I really liked this dress because as you can see, it allowed me lots of movement.

We had fun with this set! A slight gust of wind was moving the balloons around so Ty just snapped away, finding any pockets he could to capture me in.

There was plenty of color on the red carpet but there was also a wide range of white and nude colored gowns. Hairstyles varied from tousled updos to retro waves to dramatic Heidi braids. I never do much with my hair so these looks are inspiring me to try new things with my boring mane. I’ve been wanting to dye my hair red for a while now but Ty just looks at me weird every time I bring it up. If my fashion advisor doesn’t approve, it’s usually a no-go. =p

Another big trend? Glittering globs of diamonds…like the emerald show-stopper on Bianca Balti. Alessandra Ambrosia and Gong Li chose colorful dresses over accessories.

Uma Thurman showed off her fantastic figure in a white Versace gown. I loved the ultra-feminine number on Gianna Jun and you couldn’t miss Zhang Zi Lin in bright red Elie Saab. Laetitia Casta is wearing Ty’s second favorite dress. I’ve gotten him into loving couture gowns…teehee!

Salma Hayek, Karolina Kurkova, and Elsa Zylberstein dazzled in gowns that have my favorite type of embellishments…SHINY STUFF!!!

Fan Bingbing caught my attention with her gorgeous collection of red carpet dresses at last years Cannes 2010 and she has definitely outdone herself again this year as she is my pick for most consistently best dressed. Her team of stylists did an outstanding job…loved the braids especially!

Last but not least, my favorite dress! Fan Bingbing attended the Film Festival “Polisse” Premiere wearing an elegant Elie Saab gown with a gorgeous flowing lace train. Her sapphire blue diamonds were the perfect compliments to this majestic ensemble. This was also Ty’s favorite dress…man, do I have great power of persuasion skills or what? muahah!

Below is one of my favorite photos from that day.

Whenever we go out for a portrait session, there are two details that I feel must be taken note of: 1) What will the individuals be wearing? and 2) Will they appropriately match the mood of the location. These two details can be nerve-racking but it’s also what gets me the most excited about photographing people. What will they be wearing??? OMG! =p Will the individual be wearing something along the lines of what was discussed or heaven forbid something completely different and *gasp* hideous?! Sure, I dabble in photoshop but please: help me… help you, by looking fabulous and camera ready to start with. =) (Which reminds me, I need to hook up with a talented make-up artist from the Portland area.)

Anyways… as mentioned earlier, the other important factor is the location. Will it get a resounding PrettyGeeky stamp of approval or will we be improvising and going in for some tiiight shots to frame out distracting elements. We try to prepare for every one of our sessions, always trying to get to the location early (or a few days before) so we can scout out picturesque spots beforehand.

Below: There was a little bridge that made for the perfect backdrop for a full length group photo. The stylish ladies of this shoot were: (L-R) Megan, Kendall, Katie, and Kamrin.

I was very proud of these ladies; being our first time working with them, they were easygoing and took direction really well. Naturally, people need a little time to warm up to the camera. While taking test shots, one of our main objectives is always to get rid of the nerves people tend to have when a big ol’ camera is pointed at them. Taking the time to work with each person individually really produces more pleasing and natural looking images. That’s the beauty of digital cameras; the instant feedback we’re able to show them really increases their comfort level and confidence.

All the girls had different make-up looks and outfits so we did a few solos at the park (our meeting place) and then went downtown for a more fitting (for some the of outfits) urban feel.

Below: The right amount of encouragement and comfort level can bring out the inner super model within anyone. Kendall pulled off the look beautifully, channeling her inner Tyra Banks. This was Ty’s favorite shot of the day…totally his outdoorsy vibe. =)

Preparation goes a long way in making sure things run smoothly but if you’re short on time, change up your camera angle or get in tight and even a normal looking park can turn into a pretty backdrop or an alleyway into a catwalk. In any case, use your imagination and put the models at ease by making sure they feel as pretty as they look!

Amazing what a little alley way can turn into if given the chance. Across the street from “arrow” alley was a set of brick walls that made the perfect frame for our makeshift catwalk.

Below: I thought the red from Katie’s outfit played well with the tone of the brick wall.

Here again is the complete ensemble that Lilly put together for her girls.

BTS notes:

We used minimal gear for this quick session. All of the shots were taken under natural light except with the “arrow” shot in the alley which required a little bounce flash since she had her back towards the natural light. The key to natural light photos is to recognize the direction of light. You must take care in seeing how light falls on your subjects and the resulting shadow that it causes.

Gear used:

• Nikon D700 with Nikon 50mm f/1.4G: The 50mm is the perfect walk around focal length for full-frame cameras like the D700. It’s great for full length as well as tighter portrait shots.
• Nikon D90 with Nikon 35mm f/2D: The 35mm on a crop-framed camera like the D90 will give you almost the same field of view as the D700 + 50mm…. which is: perfect walk around very versatile lens.
• California Sunbounce Micro-mini reflector: With the natural light shots, we added “pop” to the portraits by using our favorite outdoor reflector. Additionally, when you have someone wearing hats… a reflector is an easy way to fill in the shadows under the rim. When using our SB-600 speedlight, we mount it to this reflector. The flash is pointed at the reflector and bounced back to the subject. Why not just bare flash? The larger your flash surface area, the softer the shadow… a bare flash (tiny front face) would produce harsh shadows under the neck, chin.. etc.
• SB-600 speedlight: our trusty speedlight used to fill in the shadows when the subjects have their backs against the sun for that nice silhouette rim-light effect.
• Radiopopper PX remote triggers: when firing remote speedlights outdoors… a radio trigger system is the way to go. No wires, no fuss… just snap away as usual.

Finally, we can talk about the important things, the red carpet dresses, yay! =p My top 3 picks: Natalie Portman looked lovely and all-a-glow in a white Azzaro gown. Lea Michele was super sexy in a slinky Oscar de la Renta. Lastly, even though Mila Kunis looked gorgeous, I went with Amy Adams…white is a hard color to pull-off but she looked so graceful and elegant in it.

Mila Kunis: How gorgeous is this girl?! I LOVED her wavy hair and smokey eyes – so mesmerizing those eyes! She’s in an Alexander McQueen creation so, of course, it’s a dress you will get noticed in.

January Jones, Julianna Margulies, Jane Leeves, Amy Adams: Amy adams was wearing one of the major trends of the night, a pony tail. Check out the Pretty Junk she was wearing with a very body-conscious dress…she made it look so easy!

Tina Fey: This look was the best that I’ve seen from her in a while, beautiful styling from head to toe. Red was a popular choice for this awards show.Pretty Junk

Angie Harmon: She is a beautiful mother of three and appears to have found the fountain of youth. Angie looked so enchanting in this Monique Lhuillier ballgown.

Cara Buono, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley: Jenna Ushkowitz was all smiles showing off her Pretty Junk but who could blame her?! I love me some super-sized diamond rings too!

Heather Morris, Julia Stiles, Kelly Macdonald: I loved all three of these ladies dresses and you can see the reason why, they have the same shape! A sweetheart neckline, cinched in waist, and long flowing skirt…this is the type of dress I would love to photograph!!! Pretty Junk on Heather Morris and more Pretty Junk from Julia Stiles.

Nicole Kidman: She is so tall and statuesque and I liked seeing her in this lacey Nina Ricci gown. The bow in the back was way cute!

Claire Danes: Belts was another look we saw a lot of. It’s a great way of creating curves and drawing attention to a tiny waist.

Dianna Agron, Helena Bonham Carter, Ariel Winter: I see another trend…black pumps and matching clutch.

Natalie Portman: Flawless. Beautiful hair and make-up and her clutch was pretty fetching too. See, what did I tell you? Flawless.

Melissa Leo, Annette Bening, Naya Rivera, Lea Michele: I didn’t even know Lea Michele had such a slender and attractive figure but she totally owns the goods. One of my favorite dresses of the night and another hair and make-up perfect combo.

Jennifer Lawrence, Mindy Kaling, Eva Longoria, Hilary Swank: Hilary Swank looked soft and pretty in a champagne colored Versace gown. Pretty Junk

Kim Kardashian: I loved her hourglass figure in this dress and the color complimented her nicely.

Sofia Vergara, Jenna Fischer, Mariska Hargitay, Susan Sarandon: Sexy Sofia, she has the most enviable curves and I loved the bold color of her Roberto Cavalli gown. Pretty Junk

I loved the energy of this show, always playful and perky! The shoes were FABULOUS as usual, some looked totally unique and completed the costumes perfectly. I also liked all the various necklaces/chokers, from cute bow ties to funky chains to fine strands of diamonds, it was a scrumptious feast for the eyes. And who could forget the extraordinary wings this year, impressive and oh so heavenly!!

Tough Love collection:

I loved the diamante skull on Adriana Lima. I liked this melting pot of oriental, sexy and deadly, but then again, Adriana could make any odd thing look good, no doubt…AND she just had a baby too!! oooh the envy!!

The ‘every rose has a thorn’ concept on Maryna Linchuk (above) is my favorite from the Tough Love segment, loved this prickly beauty piece! Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (below) was a close second in a spiky corset with studded wings.

This show is not only full of fantasy women but also fairytale come true adornments -loved the details! The butterfly belt on Candice Swanepoel was gorgeous!

The design team had such great ideas for the Game On segment!! Men who like sporty gals were probably lusting after these looks for their girlfriends. I know I definitely wouldn’t mind receiving these glittery boxing gloves on Erin Heatherton for Christmas!!! I also absolutely loved Izabel Goulart in a whirlwind of ribbons!! Lais Ribeiro was one of the most beautiful models on the runway. She made a splash with this awesome water spray and pearl ensemble.

Game On collection:

Unbelievably, Isabeli Fontana (above) has had two children but every inch of her says otherwise!!! Check out this body, amazing genes or amazing doctor??=D

Country Girls collection:

Adriana Lima was the lucky Victoria’s Secret Angel who wore the $2 million dollar bra called the Bombshell Fantasy Bra. I also spotted a picture of Candice Swanepoel wearing harp wings in the same lingerie but on the runway she appeared with another set of wings -disappointing since it looked like a beautiful showpiece.

I love chandeliers and Izabel Goulart looked like one, teehee! Her glittering costume was magnificent and I could see her fitting right in with Lumière, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Chip.

Whether they envisioned Lily Donaldson as cupid or Aphrodite or some other goddess, it really doesn’t matter -I want that crown!!!

Wild Things Collection:

Well, I thought I’d seen everything when I saw this picture of a white-blue peacock but apparently there are more strange and beautiful creatures to be found.

Chanel Iman wearing bubble wings!! Fun. Fun. Fun. I cannot count the number of things I want from this show…mainly just to do some photo shoots with but add this to the collection!!

Pink collection:

If you looked closely at each costume in this colorful eye candy parade, there is more than meets the eye, for example, I loved Jacquelyn Jablonski’s sassy pants!! =D I really enjoyed the show considering how much work went into creating and crafting each unique piece…hope you enjoyed them too!

There were an abundance of hairstylists who opted to do elegant and outrageous updos on the celebs. Naomi Watts was a vision in a multi-tiered shimmery Armani Privé gown and sleek updo. She looked heavenly in it but my favorite dress was the pale pink chiffon Gucci number -loved the pop of red lip color too, she looked every part the silver screen siren. Naomi Watts is girl crush material, she just does not disappoint on the red carpet!

Salma Hayek was such a bombshell, a knockout in all shades of red! I loooved this woman’s endless curves in a stunning pink Gucci Première gown…I was also drooling all over myself over this huge rock on her hand!

I don’t watch many Asian films so I’m not familiar with her but even so, Fan Bing Bing did not go unnoticed as she looked fabulous making the rounds on the red carpet. She has a soft and feminine quality about her but isn’t afraid to take risks as shown by wearing this symbolic gold dress. Stunning embroidery, just not one of my favorites overall.

Camilla Belle was a delight to see at Cannes; a pretty ice princess that usually gets on my best dressed list. I adored her in the black strapless Gucci Première gown with unique bead design…I’m always a little self-conscious about the girls getting too much showtime so I love the idea of a stylish sheer panel to conceal them a bit. Thumbs up to the modesty flap.

Diane Kruger looked outstanding in this pink and black Jason Wu gown…the ruching and fit were superb! The modesty flap showed up again but this time in the form of a lacey panel.

You can always rely on Georgina Chapman to bring beauty and glamour to every event she attends. This designer’s creations are so awe-inspiring and I always look forward to celebs paying homage to her gorgeous gowns. The white empire waisted gown looked so flattering on her I thought for a second that she had had the baby already and did a quick google search before enviously coming to the conclusion that she’s just blessed with the goods. The gigantic ornaments she paired with the look were awesome!

I loved her Zuhair Murad gown from the Met Gala and now this?! Jennifer Lopez loves couture and the gowns she has been wearing recently have been wowing me left and right. I loved the details of this pink feathery Roberto Cavalli dress and for better or worse, she certainly stood out in it!

What can I say about this woman but that she is one classy dame! I was taken away with Helen Mirren…she wins me over every time with her style and elegance. Diane Lane, Aishwarya Rai, and Doutzen Kroes were modern day muses in long flowing dresses.

Now we come to my consistently best dressed from the Cannes Film Festival: Kate Beckinsale! I love nothing better than seeing beautiful women look their best and she did it again and again (and set to repeat). It was refreshing how she changed up her hairdos with every ensemble and kept each look sophisticated and not too over the top. Even doing casual chic in a plum and rose-coloured Christian Dior ensemble, she still looked radiant with her beautiful smile ever present (is charmed by her).

And now we crown my favorite dress! I was fascinated by Kate Beckinsale’s Armani Privé dress which she wore at the AMFAR party. The shape of the dress reminded me of a calla lily and it wrapped around her figure very alluringly. It’s unique, sexy, and sparkly…who coud resist?! Not to mention that stunning teardrop diamond ring is sooooo ready to be mine! =d

Anyways, it gave me an idea to create a “random pics from our vault” post. I’m calling these my “oh snaps!” photos and hope to share more photos with you guys from time to time.
