Sophia was such a pro… she needed very little direction. She was in rhythm with the camera instantly. It’s such a blessing that I definitely do not take for granted. Below are photos from the Pearl theme taken at one of our oldie favorite spots.

Below is a more traditional pearl necklace, very classic and elegant piece of bling! Hey, it doesn’t have to be a diamond to be called bling!

The final piece of jewelry we shot had a very Grecian goddess feel.

For an even more glamorous vibe, we headed up to the rooftops to shoot under the LA skyline. A very special thanks to Howard and KZ for letting us in =).

Although it was a bit windy and cold up there, the LA skyline created such beautiful bokeh lights, it was breathtaking. It’s incredible how a smoggy hazy daytime location can transform into such an amazing backdrop at night. The lights seemingly dance in the background! BTW, this rooftop scene totally reminds me of the Dancing with the Stars intro. =)

Before we label our BTS info, take a look at the beautiful skyline… wow huh? I might have to say, this is our prettiest BTS photo to date.

What was my only regret of this night? We didn’t have enough frames from the rooftop heli-pad. Midway through the session, the security guard ruined all the fun. I guess it was for the best though, Sophia would’ve lost a few toes to frost bite had we stayed up there a bit longer ;p

Sophia and everyone at Gemco, it was such a crazy fun weekend of non-stop shooting! Thanks for being the perfect clients; willing to listen and put up with us to do all the little things to get the perfect photos! From getting your foot scraped up at the beach to almost getting locked atop the helicopter pad… you guys were so much fun to work with.

Camera gear used: Setup used for the rooftop scene was the Nikon D700 + Nikon 85mm/f1.4D with our lightweight monopod for stabilization (for night time shots, you must have a tripod or monopod because you will be shooting at very low shutter speeds). The lighting setup was 2 x SB600 speedlights: one in a 51″ PLM umbrella and the other bare from behind for rim lighting. What was the most important light? It was actually the fill light (a regular reptile lamp) used mainly as the focus assist light. If you’ve shot in pitch darkness before, you’ll know that it is very difficult to get proper focus. The lamp was powered by the portable power pack: PCB Vagabond Mini Lithium… highly recommended.

The setup for the beach shot was a mixture of flash and natural light with the Nikon D700 + Nikon AF-S 50mm 1.4G. When using flash, the SB600 was bounced off a CA Sunbounce Micro-Mini reflector. Most important thing about shooting at the beach is to get there at the right time of day to get proper light from the sun.

Keira looked stunning and statuesque in this Valentino gown she wore for the 2006 Golden Globes. She was spot on with the rest of her appearance; hair and make-up were quite lovely and can you believe those magnificent pear drop earrings?! -I’m putting them on my wish list just in case anyone is feeling very very very generous.

$4.5 million worth of diamonds, rubies, emeralds and yellow sapphires designed to give the illusion of holly, poinsettias, and holiday ribbons. Can you say a little excessive, uh huh. I’d be a bit more disgusted except the bastards really do know how to make stunning pieces of visionary and unattainable lingerie….what a cruel thing to do, gosh! Well, I can at least afford their cotton thongs, very comfy! haha

I can’t even think of anything negative to say though when looking at previous showpieces below, just put them on a gorgeous model and you’ve got a masterpiece…go figure.
